For most, one of the main considerations in seeking drug and alcohol addiction treatment is the cost. This can also provide a great obstacle when seeking care. It is wise to try and offset the cost of rehab by seeking coverage through your insurance plan, but it can be difficult to navigate the world of insurance claims and coverage.

How do you know if your insurance covers treatment? How do you know if the rehab you choose will take your insurance once you’ve settled? At Mandala Healing Center we try to streamline this process by accepting a variety of insurances so that we can get you the maximum coverage possible when seeking treatment in West Palm Beach, Florida.

We are in-network providers with a number of insurance companies including TRICARE Insurance. If you are seeking addiction treatment in West Palm Beach and hoping to maximize your health insurance benefits to cover the cost of rehab look no further.

At Mandala Healing Center we want to make getting the help you need as easy and straightforward as possible so that you can focus on the lifesaving work of recovery. Here is a quick guide to understanding and utilizing your TRICARE insurance coverage to ensure that you are getting all of the financial help that you are entitled to for your stay at Mandala.

A Quick Overview of TRICARE Insurance

Once known as the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services, TRICARE Insurance is a healthcare program that is offered exclusively to members of the armed forces and their families. TRICARE serves both retired and active service members and provides coverage to the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Commission Core, U.S. Public Health Service, and Commission Core of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.

They provide medical and dental coverage to their clients, and as of 2017 have greatly expanded their mental health coverage. The expansions made in 2017 included opioid addiction and treatment for a number of other substance abuse disorders.

TRICARE Insurance Plans

There are a variety of different plans under the TRICARE umbrella with different specific rules, functions, and coverage. Here is a brief overview of each plan:

  • TRICARE Prime is the mandatory TRICARE plan for active-duty military members and their families. They also provide coverage for deployed National Guard. TRICARE Prime provides coverage for most types of substance abuse treatment.
  • TRICARE Prime Remote is an option for active-duty military members who would otherwise qualify for prime but live and work 50 miles from the nearest military hospital.
  • TRICARE Select is similar to other insurance carriers’ PPO plans. It is also only available to active-duty members but provides coverage from a wider range of providers at higher costs with longer wait times as some referrals require approval.
  • TRICARE for Life is a program for people who receive Medicare Part A and B. TRICARE for Life is a form of supplemental health coverage that pays for many of the things that Medicare does not.
  • TRICARE Reserve Select provides for those in the Reserves who are not on active duty. It functions like a regular insurance plan with a deductible, monthly premiums, and copays. Coverage for out-of-network providers is possible but limited in scope.
  • TRICARE Retired Reserve is for eligible retired reserve service members under the age of 60 and the surviving spouses of eligible retired reserve members. It is a plan with monthly premiums, deductibles, and copays, where members can opt to use out-of-network providers at a higher cost.
  • TRICARE Young Adult is for young adults who need coverage after they age out of their regular TRICARE coverage at 21. This coverage applies to those up to age 26.

Why Should I Find an In-Network Provider?

If you are interested in maximizing your TRICARE benefits, it is wise to seek an in-network treatment provider. For most services, TRICARE provides full coverage for in-network providers. In utilizing your full coverage, you will only be responsible for a small percentage of the bill. The exact percentage covered by TRICARE will vary from plan to plan, but whichever plan you have coverage under the way to take full advantage of and foot the smallest cost yourself is to seek an in-network provider.

Out-of-network providers complicate the process of seeking treatment. You will be responsible for a much higher percentage of the bill with out-of-network providers. You will also be responsible for filing the claims for coverage yourself. Additionally, in some cases, you may have to pay upfront for an out-of-network provider and negotiate with your insurance to seek reimbursement after treatment.
